Week 1: Float Night, Lap Swimming, and So Much More!

Hello Penguin Families!

Welcome to another edition of the Friday Newsletter (I need a fun, catchy name for this…suggestions appreciated!) We are now entering Week 1 of the regular season, which means new hours take into effect. This also means we have a LOT of new events and updates to come!

First off, I want to extend a very warm welcome to all of the new families that have joined our Penguin community the last couple weeks. From newly moved-in to families who have been the area awhile, we are so happy you joined this summer and hope you have had an amazing time with us so far!

Now onto the updates… (another long one…sorry!)

  1. Upcoming Events: Be sure to add these dates to your calendar! Please also check out the Parkcrest website or follow the Facebook page for these events as well!
    1. Family Float-In — Tuesday, June 15, 7:00-8:30 PM
      • Come bring your own inflatable raft or floatie for our first family event of the summer at the pool! Root beer floats will be served on the upper deck. Free admission, no sign-ups required.
    2. Tween Night – Thursday, June 17, 7:00-10:00 PM
      • Open to all members between the ages of 11 thru 18 ONLY for a fun night at the pool away from the parents. Theme is Hawaiian Beach Party. Snacks, drinks, and LOTS of dibble dabble will be provided!
    3. Trivia Night – Saturday, June 19, 7:00-11:00 PM
      • Please join us for Parkcrest’s biggest and most fun fundraiser: The 16th Annual Parkcrest Trivia Night…featuring the return of the ONE and ONLY CHIP HUNTER!
        • What: a team trivia contest, of course
        • Who: any adult member or non-member (bring a friend).
        • Where: Parkcrest Tennis Courts
        • Cost: $25 a person and/or $200 for an eight-person team. Clues are available for purchase that Saturday night, so bring your checkbook or extra cash.
        • Signing up: We recommend forming teams in advance, but if you do not have a team, come as a free agent. We will find a team for you. You can grab a sign-up form from the PC front office.
        • New this year: You can purchase a picnic basket for $25-$40 to munch on during the night. See the front desk for the full selection! Pre-orders are highly encouraged as there will be a very limited supply the night of. Contact Chandra (see below) to place your preorder. Beer, lemonade, and water will be provided. Bring other drinks and food for yourself/table.
        • Contact Chandra Kalscheur Stegner if you want to help ([email protected])
        • Babysitting: Many eager participants are also looking for babysitters to assist for the night. If you are interested in PROVIDING childcare for the evening, please fill out this Google Form.
        • If you would like to REQUEST childcare for the evening, please fill out this Google Form (not the one above!)
        • I will provide a running list of responses to parties who have filled out both forms with each other. This list will not be published outside of those who have given permission to share between families looking for babysitters and those offering to provide those services. Parkcrest has no affiliation nor holds any responsibility for childcare during Trivia Night, and I am providing this service as a means to connect interested parties.
  2. Swim Meet vs. Goodman and Hawks – Thursday, June 24, 5:00 PM.
    • Parkcrest Pool will close at 3 PM on this day for the swim meet. Sorry for any inconvenience!
  3. Regular Season Hours and Programming Start
    • Starting tomorrow, Saturday June 12, we will begin our regular season programming. You can find those hours on the Parkcrest website. Early Bird swim, Lunch Bunch, and all other regular season programming begins on Monday, June 14.
    • Open swim on weekdays will generally be from 1:30 – 5:30 PM, then 6:30 – 9:00 PM.
    • Open swim on weekends will generally be from 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
    • Exceptions due to programming, swim meets, special events, can adjust those hours. Please see the calendar and these updates for those changes!
  4. Lessons and Swim/Dive Team Start
    • Lessons begin this Monday, June 14! If you have not already, please check to make sure your swimmers are registered in the proper classes–I sent an email earlier with instructions on how to do that, contact me if you are still having trouble. Instructors will be making sure their full roster is present and will be available to assist as well. Over 250 kids signed up for PC lessons this summer, which is the largest number we have had in years!
    • Also, if you are interested in signing up for Lunch Bunch babysitting so you can enjoy some kid-free time at the pool from 12:45 – 1:30, the cost is $50 per family, register with David.
  5. Lap Swimming
    • Many of you have long awaited the return of lap swimming reservations! Reservations are now open through this link: calendly.com/parkcrestpool. All times are listed on the booking site. You do not need a reservation to lap swim, but reservations give priority to available lap lanes.
  6. Note on Omnify emails: Many of you may have received emails from Omnify notifying you that your subscription to Parkcrest Pool 2020 is expiring. This was the system that we used last summer for our swim block reservation, and we did not renew it for this summer. Like an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, sometimes they just can’t quite move on. You can disregard and rest assured that you are on the membership list if you are receiving this email.
  7. Adult Lessons interest form
    • I have heard a lot of interest from many adults around here for swim lessons, which is awesome! Unfortunately, Parkcrest currently only provides programming specifically targeted for children learning to swim, but I am in the process of designing a program for adults as well. If you are interested in participating in adult swim lessons, please fill out this interest form, and I will provide an update in next week’s newsletter on how the program will work.
  8. Tennis Update
    • Thank you to all members who reached out to me and assisted me in the Tennis Pro candidate search…you all gave me just another reminder of how amazing and supportive this community is. I am happy to announce that I have found a couple of promising candidates who I am meeting with this week, and (hopefully!) will be able to provide an update on the lesson schedule and signups by early next week.
